A new report from a non-partisan Christian organization is calling for paid family leave time, the topic of a recent panel in the U.S. Senate.

“Time to Flourish: Protecting Families’ Time for Work and Care” looks at pressures families face amid employment and caregiving duties. It was written by Rachel Anderson, resident fellow with the sponsoring Center for Public Justice (CPJ), and Katelyn Beaty, an editor-at-large with Christianity Today.

“We believe Christians are called to steward their citizenship in order to shape policies and cultural norms that protect the family,” said the center’s CEO, Stephanie Summers. “This report is for Christians who acknowledge that they have a role in advancing the flourishing of families, and offers them a framework so they can take action.”

“God did not intend work and family to exist in conflict, but rather to complement one another,” said the report’s executive summary. “God calls humans to both family life and 

work . . . They provide a critical foundation for a healthy society, raising the next generation of citizens, workers and family members.”

The liberal news and opinion website, Vox, called the report newsworthy, saying Christian groups haven’t always supported such policies.
