A.W. Pink, an early 20th-century pastor and theologian, wrote a 1928 masterpiece called The Sovereignty of God that offers many gems for modern leaders trudging through busy days and unending demands.

One of my big takeaways was this summary statement in the last chapter: “To bow before the sovereign will of God is one of the great secrets of peace and happiness.”

I want to bend my knee and ask the Lord of the universe to accomplish his good plans for me, to help me overcome my troubles, to lead me as I try to lead others. I want to finally receive his peace that passes understanding.

The Lord is sovereign. But how do I know if I’m fully bowing to his will? And will I ever be able to bow completely?

I wonder what it might feel like to live in this lowly position, waiting on him, trusting him, hearing his voice and being led by him. I want that, don’t you?

Pink’s book takes us on a journey into understanding the depths of God’s sovereign rule, and how it extends into every aspect of our lives, including our leadership.
